Stimulus Bill Passes Congress

"This morning, I'm reminded of words President Kennedy spoke in another time of uncertainty," President Obama says in his weekly address today. "'Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks.'"

The passage of the $787 billion stimulus bill yesterday, however party-line the vote was in the House, and near-party-line in the Senate, is a big victory for President Obama. It is arguably the biggest economic recovery legislation in history. (I believe it amounts to roughly 5% of the GDP, whereas FDR's biggest was about 2% of the GDP at the time.)

Whether it works, of course, remains to be seen.
