There is a lot of heated debate going on in the blogosphere, the media, and in coffee shops and playgroups around America right now about Sarah Palin and her choice to run for Vice President. Forget her politics and let me know what you think about her choice to seek the second highest office in the land as a mom with 1 Down's syndrome baby, 1 pregnant teenager, and 3 others to care for. I like Palin. I don't know that she has the experience that you should have to be V.P. and maybe president, but that is not the question of this post.
I am a stay-at-home mom. I do it because I was called to stay at home. At this point I do not desire to be in the work place. If I was called to be in the work place that is where I would be.
I am assuming that Palin, being a christian lady, has prayed about this decision and this is where God has called her to be.
God did not give me the ok to judge whether or not she is following where God has called her or doing her own thing. That is between her and God. It is NOT our place to decide/judge.
I can't vote on your second question, about irrelevant and sexist. I tend to think it's very relevant. I also tend to think it's sexist, but it's the reality of being a woman in what has largely been a man's world.
And I don't think it would be asked of a man who happened to have 5 kids, one with special needs and one pregnant. Unfortunately, because I'd like to see us as a nation ask this kind of thing of the men we elect.

Right now I am so frustrated with the Political Realm. Honestly I don't like either of the candidates(Republican or Democrat) so I need to choose the lesser of two evils. I will let you know which that is after the polls.

I agreed with most of what you said in the post (and paragraph) that I quoted, I just found that one sentence incredibly relevant (though not as you intended, I know).
Thrills -- Um, how can you say it's not our place to decide or judge? Judging and deciding are merely synonyms for voting. They are what we are supposed to do as members of a democracy.
I think Palin's choices/beliefs about balancing (or not) motherhood and work are very relevant because she will have the opportunity to influence policies that affect our options -- childcare tax credits, maternity/paternity leave, etc. Very, very relevant.
I had my reservations at first, but I'm sold, and I agree with thrills... It is between God and her what she is to be doing...not for me to say that because she has children she has to stay home with them. I have children - should I not be involved in ministry at my church, or run my small business, or do anything else that might take time from my children? At what point do you (or WE) get any say in how much time a mother is to spend on mothering vs. other activities?? How much time is acceptable; how much outside responsibility is too much? And WHO should get to say?
Our job as voters is not to make her personal decisions; she and her family have chosen to offer herself in service; our only responsibility is to decide if she will represent us well and to the job capably and if so, then vote for her, and if not, don't.
For those concerned about her motherly attention being divided as a moral/spiritual issue, you might want to check out the responsibility Deborah (in the Old Testament) carried, or look into the multiple 'irons in the fire' the "Proverbs 31 Woman" had...
I'm not sure there's any 'christian' basis for questioning her candidacy. So there's really no reason to forget about her politics and try to judge her personal choices.
